Day 24
The lives of the community members, of Winterveld, has been uplifted and improved. Our efforts are sure to last, however, this is in no way the solution to ending global poverty and as a result glob al hunger. In order for such a change to take place, a lot more effort, funds and support would be needed.

Day 24
Mr I. Areff: “I am extremely proud of the ICT team. Through this project they have understood the meaning and extremity of poverty. They have also learnt to value small necessities, which they usually take for granted.”
Mr S.Singh: “The past month has passed with extreme uncertainty, regarding this project. The students had to design and implement a solution as well as compile a presentation in under a month. However, they have done a fantastic job given the limited time. Congratulations, I am proud of you! ”
Anon: “these learners have indeed made a difference in this community. They have completed a great feat. Something which was otherwise thought impossible.”

Day 17
Using both the Causes and the Effects of poverty. We have come up with a few strategies.
We would first like to create an awareness to poverty. Thereafter, we would like to teach the members of the poverty-stricken community, some skills, which would benefit them greatly, for now and for the future. We would then encourage our community members to support the efforts of these people rather than oversees companies.
During our research we found that water and the collection of it was a great difficulty. We therefore, want to try and implement simple water collection units.

Day 6
Each one of us has collected information on poverty. the outcome of our research was tremendously deplorable. The increase in the rate of poverty around the world, is indeed an extremely serious issue.
While researching poverty, we came across a recurring trend: poverty stricken people often do not have access to clean drinking and bathing water, this leads to extreme illness and eventually death. We decided to keep this in mind when thinking up solutions.
We also decided to draw up a questionnaire to be answered by the general public, so as to ascertain their thoughts, views and feelings towards the worldwide poverty crisis.

Day 3
We met in the Science Lab today. We have all collected information on our chosen problem – poverty. We will also try to incorporate the idea of Human Dignity and how poverty affects this.

What is Poverty?
Simply put, poverty is the inability to afford basic necessities, i.e. food, water, medicine, hygiene, shelter, education and clothing.

We have decided that we shall be targeting local poverty. The community chosen is Winterveld, Pretoria, a neighbouring community.

Day 1
We have just initiated our group.  We brainstormed for any ideas relating to this years topics, Human Dignity and Obstacles before it and Fair Play in Sports. After racking our brains, we came up with the following suggestions. These were as follows:
  •      An Anti-Bullying Campaign
  •      Decrease the rate of Teenage Pregnancies in the community
  •      Promoting Gender Equality
  •      Eradicate Poverty
  •      Implementing Fair Play in Local Sports
  •      Gender Equality in Sports
  •      Equality towards the Disabled

We then realized that there was no need to start a completely new and different project, when our very own school initiates many humanitarian endeavor. These ventures include:
  •   Recycle Paper
  •   Operation Winter Warmth
  •    Making and Distributing Food Parcels
  •    Uplifting Projects in poorer neighbouring communities
  •    Throughout the school year we engage in various outreach activities targeting poverty, hunger and providing children with love and care.
Now that we had a few promising ideas, we concluded that the best way to make a decision was to take a vote.
